ALGOP: Rising Republican Star Sam Givhan


This week’s Rising Republican Star is Sam Givhan of Madison County. A native of Dallas County and seventh generation Alabama farmer, Sam now resides in Huntsville. He is a shareholder at the law firm of Wilmer & Lee, P.A., director and secretary for Givhan Land & Cattle Company, Inc., and owner and manager for Houston Land Company, LLC and SHG Development Company, LLC. Mr. Givhan focuses his practice on real estate and corporate law. He represents numerous lenders, developers, builders and homeowners associations, including the City of Huntsville.

A graduate of Auburn University, Sam received his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1994. Since then, Mr. Givhan has divided his time between practicing law, managing his companies, volunteering in his community, working in both local and state politics and raising six children with his wife Heather.

No stranger to hard work, Sam has served multiple positions for the Alabama Association of Habitat for Humanity Affiliates and for the Habitat for Humanity of Madison County. He is also the current Local Life Director of the Huntsville Madison County Builders Association and a member of the American Heart Association and Huntsville Rotary Club.

Sam offered himself up for service in 2009 when he ran for State Senate in District 7. The primary race witnessed six Republicans vying for the seat; Sam was able to move on into a runoff against Paul Sanford. We thank Sam for his devotion to the residents of District 7.

In 2010, Sam played a key role in Governor Bentley’s gubernatorial campaign as the Governor’s Madison County Chairman and as a member of the Governor’s Transition Team. This year Sam served as Finance Director for the Madison County Executive Committee and has been involved on the Finance Committee for Governor Bentley. Samn has also held a seat on the Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee since 2011.

There is no doubt of Sam’s dedication to his community and state; his long list of achievements and the amount of time he has selflessly given indisputably show his devotion to improving all of Alabama. We look forward to his continued work both within and outside of politics!

APR: Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan qualifies for State Senate race

Thursday, Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan has formally qualified with the Republican Party to run for the Alabama State Senate representing District 7 in Madison County. “I am excited to hit the campaign trail and talk to the voters about the issues they care about most, things like the economy, education, and infrastructure,” Givhan said. “We’ve got great some great momentum happening in the district and around the state, and I know we can take this progress to the next level.” Givhan is a shareholder at the law firm, Wilmer & Lee, P.A., where he specializes in commercial real estate transactions, development and financing for clients, including the City of Huntsville. He is also the owner of Houston Land Company and SHG Development Company, and he continues to be involved in his family’s farm, which was named Alabama’s Farm of Distinction in 2012. Givhan is the senior vice chairman of the Alabama Republican Party.
