Sam Givhan, a Huntsville lawyer who is chair of the Madison County Republican executive committee, announced on Tuesday that he is running for state Senate. Givhan is seeking the District 7 seat in Huntsville currently held by Republican state Sen. Paul Sanford. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Alabama Republican Party Senior Vice Chairman Sam Givhan announced that he is running for Alabama State Senate, District 7.  Givhan made the decision after incumbent Senator Paul Sanford (R-Huntsville) announced that he would not seek re-election. Givhan said, “I have been living, working and active in the Madison County Community for more than two decades.  I know the issues that matter most to the families, businesses and residents of the greater Huntsville area and believe I have the leadership it takes to represent Madison County in the State Senate.” Givhan stated, “We are facing great challenges in Alabama with roads in disrepair, budgetary problems, and a lack of faith in our elected officials.  I can bring everyone to the table and work on solutions to keep taxes low and government small and serve with honesty and integrity. This week’s Rising Republican Star is Sam Givhan of Madison County. A native of Dallas County and seventh generation Alabama farmer, Sam now resides in Huntsville. He is a shareholder at the law firm of Wilmer & Lee, P.A., director and secretary for Givhan Land & Cattle Company, Inc., and owner and manager for Houston Land Company, LLC and SHG Development Company, LLC. Mr. Givhan focuses his practice on real estate and corporate law. He represents numerous lenders, developers, builders and homeowners associations, including the City of Huntsville. A graduate of Auburn University, Sam received his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1994. Since then, Mr. Givhan has divided his time between practicing law, managing his companies, volunteering in his community, working in both local and state politics and raising six children with his wife Heather. APR: Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan qualifies for State Senate race

Thursday, Madison County GOP Chairman Sam Givhan has formally qualified with the Republican Party to run for the Alabama State Senate representing District 7 in Madison County. “I am excited to hit the campaign trail and talk to the voters about the issues they care about most, things like the economy, education, and infrastructure,” Givhan said. “We’ve got great some great momentum happening in the district and around the state, and I know we can take this progress to the next level.” Givhan is a shareholder at the law firm, Wilmer & Lee, P.A., where he specializes in commercial real estate transactions, development and financing for clients, including the City of Huntsville. He is also the owner of Houston Land Company and SHG Development Company, and he continues to be involved in his family’s farm, which was named Alabama’s Farm of Distinction in 2012. Givhan is the senior vice chairman of the Alabama Republican Party.
